Lae, Morobe Province | December 9, 2015Lae Secondary School made history in 2015 by becoming the first school in Papua New Guinea to pilot the Chayil Information Technology (Chayil IT) E-Library, introducing a new way for students and teachers to access educational resources through offline digital technology. The milestone project was officially welcomed by the then Lae Member of Parliament, Hon. Loujaya Kouza, who praised the initiative as an innovative and affordable solution to improve access to quality education. The project, developed by Chayil Information Technology, transformed the school's computer laboratory into a digital learning centre, allowing students and teachers to access thousands of educational resources without the need for an internet connection.Managing Director Shane Chinau said the vision behind the project was to bridge the gap between urban and rural schools by making educational resources available through an offline digital library.

"We wanted every student to have equal access to knowledge, regardless of their location or internet availability. Lae Secondary School became the ideal place to demonstrate that technology could transform education in Papua New Guinea."

The installation included configuring the school's computer laboratory, setting up the local e-library server, and providing technical support to ensure students and teachers could easily access digital textbooks, reference materials, educational videos, teacher guides, and research resources from computers connected to the school's local network. The project attracted national attention after being featured in The National newspaper under the headline "Kouza welcomes e-library project," highlighting the importance of digital learning in Papua New Guinea's education sector. The successful pilot proved that an offline e-library could provide a practical and cost-effective alternative to traditional libraries, especially for schools with limited internet connectivity and access to printed educational materials. The success of the Lae Secondary School pilot laid the foundation for Chayil IT's nationwide expansion. Over the following years, the company continued deploying its e-library systems in schools across Papua New Guinea, supporting thousands of students and teachers with modern digital learning resources.Today, the Lae Secondary School pilot is recognised as the beginning of Chayil Information Technology's mission to transform education through technology, with the company's e-library program now serving schools in multiple provinces and continuing to expand across the country.Photo Caption:The National newspaper reports on the launch of the Chayil IT E-Library Project at Lae Secondary School in December 2015.
